Field Hockey Earns First Win Of the Season, 1-0 Over Manhattanville

Franklin, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs earned their first win of the season on Thursday, registering a 1-0 victory over non-conference foe Manhattanville University at Grant Field. The win improves the Bulldogs to 1-2 on the season, while Manhattanville drops to 0-3.

Similar to their previous performance, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead. First-year Emma Gragen (Brattleboro, Vt.) collected a cross from fellow first-year Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) and redirected it past the Valiant keeper for a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game. The goal was Gragen's first of the season of the first of her career. For Yazzetti, the assist added to her team leading 5 points on the season.

Dean outshot the visitors 5-3 in the first quarter and 5-0 in the second quarter but could not add to their 1-0 lead in the first half. Manhattanville flipped the game flow in the second half, controlling play and outshooting the Bulldogs 4-2 in the third period and 5-0 in the fourth, but the Dean defense held strong, keeping the Valiants off the scoreboard and preserving the 1-0 lead.

Junior Allie Stockwell (Burrilville, R.I.) earned the win in goal, finishing with six saves and posting a shutout.

Next up for Dean is a home contest on Sunday against University of Maine-Farmington at 11 a.m.
