Franklin, Mass.- After falling behind 2-0, the Dean College Women's Volleyball team rallied, winning the third game and battling valiantly in the fourth, before falling 3-1 to Suffolk University at Pieri gymnasium on Wednesday. Dean drops to 1-1 on the year with the loss, while Suffolk improves to 3-0.
The Bulldogs were led by senior captain
Janai Price (Providence, R.I.) who finished with nine kills as well as four blocks. Sophomore
Chloe Demaio (Medfield, Mass.) added nine kills of her own while contributing two blocks.
Anabella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) continued her stellar play as a setter, finishing with 24 assists. In the back-court, junior
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, Mass.) and sophomore
Olivia Mackinnon (Plymouth, Mass.) paced the Bulldogs defense with 26 and 15 digs, respectively.
The first set was a back and forth affair, with neither team holding more than two point lead throughout the stanza. Trailing 25-24, Suffolk responded with three straight points to close out the game and take a 1-0 lead. Suffolk jumped out to a large lead in the second frame, taking a 13-6 advantage in the early going. Dean responded, closing the gap 16-13 with a run of their own. The Rams scored 9 of the next 11 points however, to take a 25-16 victory and a 2-0 lead.
Dean would not go away, though. The Bulldogs broke open a tight third set with five of seven points to take a 21-16 lead. After the Rams rallied to trim the deficit to take the lead 23-22, Dean scored the final three points to take the game. In the final set, Dean led 17-15 before Suffolk found an extra gear, scoring six straight points to take a 23-16 lead, and holding on for a 25-21 victory.
Dean is back in action on Saturday with a tri-match in Lewiston, Maine against Keene State and Bates at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
