FRANKLIN, Mass.- In the 79th minute, Junior Jake Richard (Townsend, Mass.) scored his second goal of the game, chasing down a deflection off the goalie, and booting the trickling ball into an empty net, giving the Dean College Bulldogs men's soccer team a decisive lead, en route to a 2-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday afternoon at Longley Athletic Complex. Dean improves to 2-4 overall with the win, 1-2 in GNAC play. Colby Sawyer falls to 3-6 overall, and 0-4 in the GNAC.
Richard scored his first goal 14 minutes in, on a feed from junior Chris Tunley (Las Vegas, Nevada). Dean controlled the action throughout the first half, outshooting Colby-Sawyer 10-5 and holding a 3-0 lead in corner kicks, but only connected on the one goal scoring chance. Coming out of the halftime break, the Chargers capitalized on their opportunity. Sophomore Judson DiMaria scored his 2nd goal of the season in the 54th minute to knot the game at one. After Dean threatened multiple times over the next 15 minutes, Richard was finally able to break through with the game-winning goal in the late stages of regulation.
Junior Jake Godwin (Norwalk, Conn.) made six saves in the win, while Chargers goalkeeper Yener Bartolon made eight saves in a losing effort.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday for a 10 a.m. GNAC matchup at Anna Maria.
