SALEM, MASS.- The Dean College Bulldogs took both matches of a tri-match on Saturday, knocking off Vermont State University Johnson and Salem State, both 3-1 in non-league action. The wins improve to Dean to 4-6 on the season, with one more non-conference game ahead before Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play begins.
In the first game, Dean defeated the Badgers 3-1. After a dominant first set in which the Bulldogs cruised to a 25-8 victory, Vermont State responded in set two to even the score with a 25-19 win. The Bulldogs responded, winning the next two sets 25-19, and 25-23 to the take the match.Â
Dean was led by first-year
Maddy Seymour (Simsbury, Conn.) who had six kills and five digs for seven points. Sophomore
Chloe Demaio (Medfield, Mass.) continued her strong play, posting six kills and four digs.
Junior
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, Mass.) had 18 digs, while senior
Anabella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore
Emma Siniscalchi (Huntington, N.Y.) split the setting duties with 12 and 9 assists respectively.
In the match against Salem State, Dean took the opening game in a barn-burner 25-23. The second set was more comfortable, with the Bulldogs prevailing 25-18. Salem took the third set 25-17 to put the pressure on, but Dean rallied in the fourth set for the knockout, winning 25-14 to take the match.
Emily Ball (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led Dean with 11 kills while also adding a block. Seymour added nine kills while senior
Janai Price (Providence, R.I.) had six. Driscoll's 31 assists were a game-high for either team. Raskevitz (21) and Seymour (19) led in digs in the back court.Â
Dean has now won three of their last five. The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Eastern Connecticut State at 6:00 p.m.Â
