Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Upended by Transylvania, 3-1

Franklin, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs field hockey team fell 3-1 to Transylvania University on Sunday in non-conference action at Grant Field.

Dean held the lead for the majority of the game. First-year Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) got the scoring started early, collecting a rebound of her own blocked shot, spinning and firing through the goalkeeper's legs for the first goal of the game. The goal was Yazzetti's second of the season. Dean out-shot the Pioneers 8-0 in the first period and held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second period, Transylvania out-shot the Bulldogs 3-2, but strong defense from the Bulldogs and stout goalkeeping from Allie Stockwell (Burrilville, R.I.) kept the visitors off the scoreboard to preserve the 1-0 lead at the half.

The Bulldogs had a 4-0 advantage in penalty corners in the third period, threatening consistently to increase their advantage, but could not find the back of the net. Transylvania keeper Libby Bringard (Louisville, Ky.) made two big saves in the period to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.

In the fourth quarter, the visitors came alive. Maddy Morgan (Buckner, Ky.) scored back to back goals off penalty corners, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead in the span of four minutes. Both of Morgan's goals were assisted by Lucy Cohen (Louisville, Ky.). Moments later, Morgan struck for her third goal, this time unassisted, to give the visitors the decisive 3-1 lead.

Dean held a 12-9 advantage in shots, and a 7-6 lead in penalty corners. Stockwell finished with one save in 30 minutes of action while Sara Gardner (Hampstead, Md.) made two saves while playing the second half.

Next up for the Bulldogs, another home match, this one on Thursday against Manhattanville University at 3:30 p.m.
