Bulldogs Earn 6-5 Road Win at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.– April 9, 2024 – The Dean College baseball team scored five runs in the fourth and hung on for a 6-5 road victory at Bridgewater State on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (4-15) return home tomorrow to host conference foe Rivier at 3:30 p.m. Bridgewater State (9-10) will host Fitchburg State on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Bridgewater State rallied from a 6-1 deficit to pull within a run late in the game, but sophomore Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.) closed the door in the ninth with his first career save for the Bulldogs. First-year Rylan Secovich (Southwick, Mass.) made a diving catch in left field to end the game. Giambra also had two hits at the plate.

The Bulldogs began the scoring with five runs in the fourth. Sophomore Colin Favata (Syosset, N.Y.) knocked in a pair with a single with the bases loaded. Dean then scored a couple on a pair of wild pitches. The fifth run was scored when Secovich stole home on a double steal with sophomore Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.).

The home team got on the board in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Sophomore Spencer Lichstrahl (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) got the run back for the Bulldogs with an RBI double in the top of the fifth.

The Bears plated two in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of bases loaded walks to pull within 6-3.

Matthew Pigeon kept the Bridgewater State rally going in the sixth with an RBI double to make the score 6-4.

In the seventh, Ryan Flaherty hit a solo home run to left field to cut into the Dean lead once again, 6-5.

Junior Danny Goyette (Holliston, Mass.) was credited with his first career win after a scoreless inning of work with one strikeout.

Lichstrahl and Favata each finished with two hits for Dean.

Pigeon and Kevin Lindsay had two hits apiece for the Bears.
