FRANKLIN, Mass.– April 6, 2024 – The Dean College baseball team dropped both ends of Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against Lasell. The Lasers won by scores of 4-3 and 7-1.
The Bulldogs (3-13, 0-7 GNAC) are back in action tomorrow with a home doubleheader against Colby-Sawyer. The first game at noon will count towards the GNAC standings, while game two will not. Lasell improves to 15-7 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC.
GAME ONE – Lasell 4, Dean 3
Lasell plated a pair in the first on a Scott Lyon (Weston, Mass.) doubled to right field.
Sophomore
Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) cut the deficit in half with an RBI single in the fifth, scoring sophomore
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who reached on a double.
Lasell took a 4-1 lead in the eighth with runs on a wild pitch and an RBI single from CJ Mills (Waltham, Mass.).
Dean responded with two in their half of the eighth. Senior
Kyle Lancaster (Dartmouth, Mass.) scored on a fielder's choice for the Bulldogs' second run of the game. First-year
Nathan Suncar (Boston, Mass.) then scored on a double steal to make it 4-3.
The Bulldogs threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, but the rally was thwarted with a groundout to end the game in favor of the Lasers, 4-3.
Goss finished with four hits to lead Dean. Sophomore
Nick Amendolara (Bayville, N.Y.) also had a couple of hits.
GAME TWO – Lasell 7, Dean 1
After three scoreless innings, Lyon put Lasell on the board with a sac fly.
Lasell then scored a run in the seventh before erupting for five runs in the top of the ninth.
Dean's lone run came on a bases loaded walk by Goss in the bottom of the ninth.
Seven Bulldogs had hits in the game.
First-year
Nick Swain (South Portland, Maine) pitched well in a tough loss. He tossed seven innings with one earned run on three hits and four strikeouts.
Matthew Fletcher (Wethersfield, Conn.) earned the win for the Lasers with seven shutout innings and nine strikeouts.
