HOLYOKE, Mass. – April 22, 2024 – The Dean College baseball team split a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) games against Elms at Mackenzie Stadium on Monday. Elms won game one 6-2, while the Bulldogs took game two 7-4.
Dean (9-22, 2-13 GNAC) hosts Albertus Magnus tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Elms (16-17, 6-7 GNAC) plays at New England College tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
GAME ONE – Elms 6, Dean 2
The Blazers struck first with a sac fly from CJ Moriarty in the first.
Elms doubled its lead in the fourth on another sacrifice fly by AJ Cook.
The home team took a 5-0 lead with three runs in the sixth. Josh Pasini recorded the team's third sac fly of the game and was followed by a pair of RBI singles.
Sophomore
Colin Favata (Syosset, N.Y.) put the Bulldogs on the board in the seventh with a 2-run single that scored first-year
Rylan Secovich (Southwick, Mass.) and first-year
Owen Critchley (Dayton, Maine).
Elms added a sixth run in the eighth to secure the 6-2 win.
Each Bulldog starter recorded at least one hit. Favata led the team with two.
GAME TWO – Dean 7, Elms 4
Critchley knocked in
Joey Bossinas (Ossining, N.Y.) with a double in the second to give Dean an early lead.
Elms responded with a 2-run single by Cook in the bottom half of the inning.
The Blazers added to their lead with a run in the third and one in the fourth for a 4-1 lead.
Dean tied the score with three runs in the fifth. Sophomore
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) hit a sac fly to score Favata, while Bossinas brought home Secovich with a single to center. First-year
Nathan Suncar (Boston, Mass.) later scored on a passed ball.
The Bulldogs scored another three times in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. The team benefited from a pair of wild pitches.
Critchley earned the win with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Sophomore
Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.) picked up his third save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.
Favata finished 3-for-5 with a triple, while Bossinas and Secovich had two hits apiece.
