FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 16, 2024 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team fell to Rivier, 15-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) crossover contest on Tuesday afternoon at Grant Field.
Dean (3-10, 2-7 GNAC, 2-3 South) will play at Regis on Saturday at 3 p.m. Rivier (7-6, 4-5 GNAC, 2-4 North) travels to Mitchell for its final regular season road game.
Juniors
Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) and
Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) each registered a hat trick to lead the Bulldogs. Junior
Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and two assists. She also recorded her fifth game of the season with double digits in draw controls after tallying 10 today. First-year
Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, La.) also found the scoring column. Senior
Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) contributed three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Rivier had four players score three times. Junior Sarah Lachance (Chelmsford, Mass.) led all players with six points on three goals and three assists. She added six draw controls and four ground balls. Junior Cassie Hemmerdinger (Pelham, N.H.) filled the stat sheet with two goals, an assist, 10 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Rivier goalie Lindsey Kruger (New Bedford, Mass.) earned the win with 10 saves, while Dean sophomore
Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) had five saves in the loss.
The Raiders received goals from five different players in the first quarter to take a 5-2 lead.
Senior Caitlin Newell (Litchfield, N.H.) notched two of the Raiders' four goals in the second quarter. Peterson scored both of Dean's goals in the frame as the Bulldogs trailed 9-4 at the half.
Each side scored twice in the third to make the score 11-6 after 45 minutes of action.
Hemmerdinger opened the scoring in the fourth for a 12-6 Rivier advantage. Gaunt got the goal back for the Bulldogs, but Rivier responded with three consecutive goals, including two player-up tallies, for the 15-7 lead. Peterson ended the scoring with her third goal of the game with 3:40 left on the clock for the 15-8 final.
