NEWTON, Mass. – April 13, 2024 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team earned an important 12-9 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) South Division victory at Lasell on Saturday afternoon.
Dean (8-4, 4-3 GNAC, 2-1 South) hosts Elms on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Lasell (8-5, 6-1 GNAC, 2-1 South) travels to Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday for an important division matchup.
Today was the first win over the Lasers in four tries for the Bulldogs.
Senior
Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) had five points on three goals and two assists. Senior
Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) had a game best four goals. First-year
Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) and junior
Jason Richard (Holden, Mass.) added two goals apiece. Junior
Owen Brine (Lebanon, N.H.) also found the scoring column with a goal. Senior
Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) finished 15-of-24 in faceoffs to go with eight ground balls.
Anthony DeRosa, Landon Reyes and Finnegan McCormack had two goals apiece to lead the Lasers.

Elijah Beland (Augusta, Maine) made eight saves to earn the win for Dean, while Michael Catalano finished with 16 saves in the loss.
In a low scoring first quarter, the Bulldogs got the game's first two goals. Richard scored a man-up goal, while Speirs also found the back of the net. Both goals were assisted by junior
Aidan McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.).
Lasell quickly tied the game with a pair of early goals to start the second frame. Dean answered with goals from Speirs and
Manny Alvarez-Segee. Ryan Stone pulled Lasell to within one with a man-up tally with less than nine minutes to play, but Dean finished the half with a 3-0 spurt. The Bulldogs received a goal from Speirs and two from
Diego Alvarez-Segee for a 7-3 lead at the break.
The Lasers cut the deficit to one goal on multiple occasions in the third, but Dean took a 9-7 lead into the final quarter.
McCormack opened the scoring in the fourth to pull Lasell to within 9-8. Dean answered with goals by
Manny Alvarez-Segee and Brine for an 11-8 lead with 8:15 left. McCormack notched his second goal of the game, but Richard capitalized on a man-up opportunity for the second time to help ice the game for Dean at 12-9 with 2:34 to play.
