Dean Defeats Purchase, 18-1

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 9, 2024 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team pushed its win streak to three games with an 18-1 triumph over Purchase on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Grant Field.

Dean (3-1) begins conference action on Wednesday with a 1 p.m. home game against Albertus Magnus. Purchase (1-3) continues a 3-game road trip on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. game at Rosemont.  

Bulldogs senior Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) posted game-highs of nine points, five goals and four assists. First-year Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) was next with five points on a couple of goals and three helpers. Senior Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) scored four times, while first-year Collin Murphy (Whitman, Mass.) notched his first collegiate tally. Senior Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 9-of-10 faceoffs.

First-year Charley Jimenez (Hempstead, N.Y.) scored the lone Panthers goal. He added a team best three ground balls.

First-year Elijah Beland (Augusta, Maine) earned the win with a clean first half with one save. First-year Dane Duarte (Londonderry, N.H.) made one save in the third quarter, while sophomore Matthew Fenlason (Winthrop, Maine) allowed one goal and had one save in the fourth quarter.

Purchase goalie Will Boes (Pleasantville, N.Y.) allowed 15 goals and made 11 saves in 43 minutes. First-year Sam Erlich (Plainview, N.Y.) worked the final 17 minutes and surrendered three goals with five saves.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, including a pair of goals from Manny Alvarez-Segee.

Dean then scored eight times in the second for a 12-0 advantage after 30 minutes. Diego Alvarez-Segee had four goals and two assists in the frame, while Speirs found the back of the net three times.

Senior Will Brooks (Denver, Colo.) scored two of the Bulldogs' five goals in the third for a 17-0 margin after three quarters.

Each team scored a goal in the final quarter. Purchase received a score from Jimenez, while sophomore Joseph Marra (North Branford, Conn.) notched his first goal of the season.
