FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 6, 2024 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team used a strong fourth quarter to earn a 16-9 victory over Curry in the Bulldogs' home opener.
Dean (2-1) will host Purchase on Saturday at noon. Curry (1-5) travels to Mass. Maritime on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Senior
Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) had 10 points for the second-straight game with six goals and four assists. Senior
Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) added three goals and two assists. Junior
Aidan McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.) registered two goals and two assists. Senior
Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) finished 20-of-26 in faceoffs to go with 10 ground balls.
Junior Mac Kline (Essex, Conn.) led the Colonels with four points on three goals and an assist. Senior Dom Cerone (Hanover, Mass.) was next with two goals and a helper. Four other Colonels found the scoring column.
First-year
Elijah Beland (Augusta, Maine) made seven saves in the win. Curry goalie Liam O'Neill (McMurray, Pa.) took the loss with 15 goals allowed and nine saves in 56 minutes.
The game was tied 2-2 after the first quarter before the Bulldogs took a 6-4 lead at halftime. Curry responded with a 4-2 edge in scoring in the third to knot the score at 8-8 after 45 minutes.
Dean opened things up in the final quarter, scoring seven unanswered goals in 10 minutes before the Colonels got on the board. Alvarez-Segee then gave the Bulldogs the 16-9 advantage with his sixth goal of the game to secure the victory in the team's first home game of the season.
