Coward-Jackson Sets Aces Mark in Saturday Tri-Match

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 30, 2024 - The Dean College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at a home Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match on Saturday.

The Bulldogs fell to Lasell (15-11, 10-2 GNAC) 3-0 by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-14. Rivier (14-12, 7-3 GNAC) then edged Dean 3-1 with scores of 25-19, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-14.

Dean (3-16, 0-12 GNAC) hosts Fisher on Tuesday to celebrate senior night at 6 p.m.

Highlighting the day was junior Nunu Coward-Jackson (Fresno, Calif.) setting a new program mark with 57 career aces, since the team joined the NCAA. He surpassed Tyler Martins '23 number of 56.

LASELL 3, DEAN 0 – 25-15, 25-16, 25-14

Sophomore Arthur Felicio (Governador Valadares, Brazil) had five kills, while senior Aaron Fonseca (West Warwick, R.I.) added four. Sophomore Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.) contributed 11 assists and five digs.

RIVIER 3, DEAN 1 – 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-14

Felicio added six kills to his daily total. Coward-Jackson posted four kills, four digs and five aces to give him the record. Senior Maccus Dinsmore (Northborough, Mass.) tallied four kills and a block. First-year Luis Castillo (Houston, Texas) led Dean with 13 digs. Armitage registered 17 digs, two kills, an ace and five digs.

The Raiders hit .538 with 17 kills en route to the 25-19 first-set victory.

The second set began with back-and-forth action with eight ties and four lead changes. With the score tied at 9-9, Rivier rattled off six consecutive points and never looked back for the 25-17 win.

The Bulldogs' offense took over in the third set that featured 11 ties and three lead changes. Dean trailed 21-18 but went on a 7-1 run to close the set and win 25-17. Dinsmore hit .667 with four kills to lead the Bulldogs. Dean hit .304 as a team in the set.

The start of the fourth set was similar to the third with 11 ties and four lead changes. The Bulldogs held a 13-11 lead, but Rivier used a .423 hitting percentage to go on a 14-1 run to secure the set victory 25-14 and the match 3-1.
