Bulldogs Fall at Saint Joseph (Conn.), 15-11

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – March 30, 2024 – The University of Saint Joseph erased a halftime deficit to defeat the Dean College men's lacrosse team, 15-11, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) South Division contest Saturday afternoon.

Dean (6-3, 2-2 GNAC, 1-1 GNAC South) is scheduled to play at Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. USJ (8-2, 4-0 GNAC, 1-0 GNAC South) begins a 3-game road trip on Wednesday at Johnson & Wales.

Senior Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) led all players with five goals. Junior Owen Brine (Lebanon, N.H.) recorded a hat trick, while senior Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) contributed a goal and two assists. First-year Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) scored twice.

Nick Pestrichello led nine USJ goal scorers with a hat trick. Four players scored two goals, including Matthew Wurszt who also added an assist.

Trey McCann earned the win for the Blue Jays with 11 saves. Dean first-year Elijah Beland (Augusta, Maine) took the loss with seven saves.

The Bulldogs held a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes. Diego Alvarez-Segee scored twice to help Dean take an advantage into the second quarter.

The teams alternated the first seven goals of the second frame before Dean received a Brine goal to end the half with 18 seconds remaining for a 9-5 Bulldogs lead at the break.

Brine opened the scoring in the third to put Dean on top by a 10-5 score. USJ then took over with six unanswered goals and an 11-10 advantage after 45 minutes.

The Blue Jays kept the momentum going into the final quarter and outscored Dean 4-1 to account for the 15-11 final.
