NORTHBORO, Mass. – March 30, 2024 – The Dean College baseball team dropped both ends of Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against Anna Maria at the New England Baseball Complex. The AMCATS won 13-3 (7 inn.) and 19-14.
Dean (3-9, 0-4 GNAC) will host Nichols on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Anna Maria improved to 9-11 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
In game one, Anna Maria scored eight times in the first inning and never looked back. The AMCATS scored a run in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the seventh to secure the 7-inning victory.
Dean got on the board in the third inning when first-year
Owen Critchley (Dayton, Maine) was credited with stealing home.
In the fourth, Critchley singled home senior
Kyle Lancaster (Dartmouth, Mass.).
The Bulldogs' third run came in the sixth frame when Lancaster belted his first home run of the season over the left field fence.
Sophomore
Conner Coleman (Portland, Maine) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Lancaster finished 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI and a walk. Critchley also had two hits in two at-bats with a walk.
Game two featured 33 runs, 36 hits and nine errors.
Junior
Joey Bossinas (Ossining, N.Y.) gave Dean an early lead with an RBI triple in the top of the second. He then scored on a
Nick Amendolara (Bayville, N.Y.) single for a 2-0 lead.
Anna Maria answered with nine runs on seven hits and two errors in the bottom half.
The Bulldogs responded with a pair in their next at-bat on a bases loaded walk by
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and a sac fly by Bossinas.
The AMCATS took a 13-4 lead after scoring four more in the bottom of the third.
After a scoreless fourth inning, each team plated a pair in the fifth. Bossinas and Critchley each knocked in a run for the Bulldogs.
Bossinas then brought in his fourth RBI of the game with a single in the sixth, but Anna Maria answered with two in their half of the inning for a 17-7 advantage.
The Bulldogs didn't give up as the team rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh. Sophomore
Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) had the big hit in the inning with a 2-run double to the gap.
Dean cut the deficit to 17-14 in the top of the eighth on a Paschetto 2-run single to left.
Anna Maria got the two runs back in the bottom of the eighth for a 19-14 lead and then shut the door in the top of the ninth for the win.
Bossinas went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs and a walk. Paschetto knocked in three, while Goss and Amendolara finished with two RBIs each. Sophomore
Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.) had three hits and scored three times from the leadoff spot.
