NASHUA, N.H. – March 25, 2024 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team had its 6-game win streak snapped at Rivier in a 13-8 defeat to the Raiders in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Monday night.
Dean (6-2, 2-1 GNAC, 1-0 GNAC South) travels to Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday for a South Division contest against the Blue Jays. Rivier (4-4, 2-1 GNAC, 0-0 GNAC North) will play its first division game on Thursday at Saint Joseph's (Maine).
First-year
Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) and junior
Jaden Wise (Belchertown, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals. Senior
Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) contributed a goal and two assists. Three other Bulldogs found the back of the net. Senior
Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 15-of-24 faceoffs and picked up a game-high eight ground balls.
Coby Mercier posted a game best eight points on three goals and five assists for the Raiders. Michael Zapatka tallied three goals and an assist. Michael Ference and Chris Heitmiller each recorded two goals and an assist.
Dean first-year
Elijah Beland (Augusta, Maine) made seven saves in the loss. Sawyer Gagnon earned the win with 15 saves for Rivier.
The Bulldogs received goals from
Shawn Beebe (Groton, Conn.) and Wise to 2:31 into the contest. Rivier got on the board with a Ference goal before an Alvarez-Segee put the Bulldogs back on top by a deuce. Zapatka notched a pair of goals to tie the score at 3-3 by the end of the first quarter.
Dean went in front 4-3 early in the second, but Rivier rattled off five unanswered goals for an 8-4 advantage at the half.
The Bulldogs cut into the deficit in the third by outscoring the home team 3-2 but trailed 10-7 at the end of 45 minutes.
The Raiders added two early goals in the final quarter and later added another for a 13-7 lead with less than five minutes to play. Wise tallied his second of the game with 1:15 on the clock but the Bulldogs fell short, 13-8.
