GORHAM, Maine – March 2, 2024 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-10 non-conference victory at Southern Maine Saturday afternoon.
Dean improves to 1-1 and will begin a 4-game homestand with a 3 p.m. contest against Curry on Wednesday. Southern Maine drops to 1-2.
Senior
Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) led Dean with 10 points on six goals and four assists. Senior
Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) finished with five goals and three assists. First-year
Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) contributed four goals and an assist. Senior
Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) tallied two goals, 12 ground balls and won 24-of-31 faceoffs.
First-year
Elijah Beland (Augusta, Maine) earned his first victory in net with nine saves for Dean.
The Huskies were led by Schuyler Wetmore's three goals and three assists.
Dean had a 5-2 edge on the scoreboard in the first quarter.
Diego Alvarez-Segee led the Bulldogs with a pair of goals.
In the second, Huskies cut the deficit to 7-5 at the half by outscoring Dean 3-2.
Manny Alvarez-Segee scored both of Dean's goals in the quarter.
The third quarter featured 10 goals as the Bulldogs increased their lead with a 7-3 advantage in scoring. A Wetmore goal pulled the home team to within 8-6, but goals by
Diego Alvarez-Segee and Benedetto gave the Bulldogs a cushion. Dean went in front by a 14-8 score after Speirs notched his third goal of the quarter with 19 seconds left on the clock.
The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure in the offensive zone and scored four unanswered goals to begin the fourth, putting the game out of reach.
