FRANKLIN, Mass. – February 27, 2024 - The Dean College men's volleyball team lost a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match to Regis, 3-0, by scores of 25-6, 25-19 and 25-18.
Dean (3-7, 0-4 GNAC) concludes a homestand on Thursday with a 6 p.m. GNAC match against Emerson. Regis (8-6, 4-1 GNAC) hosts Emmanuel tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
Sophomore
Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.) ran the Bulldogs offense with nine assists and a team best four kills on .800 hitting. Senior
Aaron Fonseca (West Warwick, R.I.) contributed three kills, while first-year
Luis Castillo (Houston, Texas) picked up a match-high eight digs. Senior
Steve Mazza (Westchester, N.Y.) had two kills on two attempts and added a block.
Regis was led by sophomore Jalen Watt's (South Hadley, Mass.) eight kills on .438 hitting and five blocks. First-year Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.) also had eight kills. First-year Grant Wojcik (Bellingham, Mass.) finished with 23 assists.
The Pride hit .588 with 11 kills en route to a convincing 25-6 first-set victory. Watt had four kills on five attempts.
Dean battled throughout the second set, keeping things close with .333 hitting as a team. The Bulldogs spread out the attack with five different players recording at least one kill. Valdes had five kills for Regis. The Bulldogs trailed by just two at 21-19 before Regis rattled off the next four for the 25-19 victory.
The third set featured nine ties and six lead changes. The score was tied at 14-14, but Regis created separation with five straight points. The Pride ended the frame on a 4-2 run to win 24-18 and take the match.
