Raiders Charge Past Dean, 99-51

FRANKLIN, Mass. – February 10, 2024 – The Dean College women's basketball team was defeated by Rivier, 99-51, in a Saturday afternoon Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.

The Bulldogs (2-19, 0-11 GNAC) hit the road on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. game at Johnson & Wales. Rivier (8-16, 6-7 GNAC) concludes the regular season on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home game against Mitchell.

Senior Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) and junior Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) each scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs. Thomas added seven rebounds, and three assists. First-year Abi Boutin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished with nine points and four rebounds.

Rivier was led by Lyric Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.). She scored 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor and 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. Junior Alexa Dufries (Leicester, Mass.) recorded 15 points and six boards. First-year Emily Coleman (Saco, Maine) grabbed a game best 12 rebounds.

1st Quarter
  • The Raiders made nine three-pointers to take a 34-8 lead after one frame.
  • Grumblatt had 17 in the quarter.
2nd Quarter
  • Rivier continued its efficient afternoon with 56.3% shooting from the field in the second.
  • Grumblatt added to her total for 22 points at the half.
  • Boutin led Dean with four points.
3rd Quarter
  • In a high scoring, closely played third quarter, each team shot at least 50% from the floor.
  • Dean made 8-of-16 field goals, while Rivier made 10-of-18 for a 24-20 edge in scoring in the third.
  • Cournoyer poured in nine points, while Thomas added six for the Bulldogs.
4th Quarter
  • Dean made 8-of-12 from the free throw line in the fourth, while Rivier added four more three-pointers to give them 20 for the game.
  • Thomas scored six more points in the final frame for Dean.
