PROVIDENCE, R.I. – February 14, 2024 – The Dean College women's basketball team fell at Johnson & Wales (JWU), 74-27, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Wednesday night.
The Bulldogs (2-20, 0-12 GNAC) will host Emmanuel tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. JWU (10-13, 5-8 GNAC) concludes the regular season at Regis on Saturday at 1 p.m.
First-year
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) led the Bulldogs with seven points, seven rebounds and a couple of steals. First-year
Makayla Swan (Middlebury, Vt.) was next with six points. Senior
Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) and junior
Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) each grabbed seven rebounds.
Alexa Lora had 15 points to lead the Wildcats. Sarah Wisniewski was also in double figures with 14 points. Peyton Oliver pulled down a game best 13 rebounds, while Mikayla Caruso grabbed 11 boards.
1st Quarter
- The home team held Dean to one bucket in the first to take a 13-5 lead after 10 minutes.
- JWU used a balanced scoring attack with five players recording at least two points.
2nd Quarter
- The Wildcats scored 10 points in the paint to help increase their lead to 27-9 at the half.
- Three JWU players had four points in the quarter.
- Cournoyer and Swan had baskets for Dean.
3rd Quarter
- JWU erupted for 29 points on 52% shooting, including four three-pointers.
- Wisniewski led eight Wildcats in the scoring column with eight points.
- Swan added four points to her total for the Bulldogs.
4th Quarter
- JWU outscored Dean 18-9 in the final frame with 16 points in the paint.
- Doane had three points for the Bulldogs.
