Saint Joseph Earns Road Win at Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. – February 1, 2024 – The Dean College women's basketball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) home game to the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), 87-47, Thursday evening inside Pieri Gymnasium.   
     
Dean (2-17, 0-9 GNAC) travels to Mitchell on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. tip against the Mariners. USJ (17-3, 8-1 GNAC) hosts Albertus Magnus at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

First-year Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) led the Bulldogs with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. She made all eight of her free throw attempts. Junior Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) added 10 points and three steals. Senior Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) contributed nine points, while junior Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) chipped in with eight points.

USJ was led by Jordan Ouellette's game best 14 points. Maci Dorantes posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Maya Slisz was the fourth Blue Jay in double figures with 10 points.

1st Quarter
  • The teams traded the first four buckets of the game, covering the opening four minutes of action.
  • USJ led 12-6 with 2:37 left in the frame.
  • Dean finished on a 7-4 run to trail 16-13 after 10 minutes.
  • Viau led all players with seven points in the quarter.
  • The Blue Jays had 10 points in the paint and were led by Amanda Fudge's six points.
2nd Quarter
  • The Bulldogs tied the game at 18-18 on a Doane three-pointer early in the second.
  • USJ responded with a 15-3 run to take its biggest lead of the half at 33-21.
  • The Blue Jays shot 53% and scored 18 points in the paint to lead 35-25 at the half.
3rd Quarter
  • The visitors went 12-of-23 from the floor in the third to build a 64-40 advantage through three quarters.
  • Dean made 8-of-10 free throws. Doane went 8-of-8.  
4th Quarter
  • The Blue Jays continued their efficient shooting in the final quarter. USJ shot 56.3% from the floor and made 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
  • Cournoyer scored four of Dean's seven points in the frame.
