NEW LONDON, Conn.- The Dean College Bulldogs wrapped up their fall semester with an 88-64 loss to Mitchell College in non-conference men's basketball action on Saturday. The loss drops Dean to 8-2 on the season, as Dean will enter the holiday break with their strongest record since 2016.
The Bulldogs trailed 40-28 at the halftime break. Both teams struggled shooting in the first half, with Dean shooting 0-5 from three point range and 6-15 from the free throw line, and Mitchell going 3-13 from deep and 5-11 from the stripe. The Mariners quickly extended their lead in the start of the second half, stretching the 12 point advantage to 20 seven minutes into the frame. The teams traded hoops over the next three minutes, but after that, Dean would never get the deficit below 20 again. Mitchell extended to as large as 27 point advantage before cruising to a 24 point victory.
Dean was led by
Ja'maine Davenport (Mays Landing, N.J.) who recorded 16 points and 9 rebounds off the bench.
Billy Ray Barnes III (Inglewood, Calif.) scored ten points and added nine rebounds, while
Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) registered seven points and grabbed seven boards in a starting role for the first time this season.
Dean traveled to Mitchell, for a non-conference matchup despite the two teams being Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foes. They will meet again in the spring semester for a GNAC contest. The Bulldogs (8-2) are off until after the holiday break, when they travel to Regis on January 4th for a 3:00 p.m. start.
