Barnes' Monster Triple Double Leads Bulldogs to Seventh Straight Win, 101-84 vs, UNE

FRANKLIN, Mass.- Dean College Junior Billy Ray Barnes III scored 27 points, adding 18 rebounds, and 11 assists to power the Bulldogs to a 101-84 victory over the University of New England in non-conference play on Tuesday night at Pieri Gym. The win extends the Bulldogs unbeaten streak to start the season to a program-best seven straight wins.

Dean controlled the action throughout the game, leading wire to wire for the victory. Dean commanded a 52-43 lead at halftime, buoyed by 16 from Barnes, eight points by senior Greg Farrow (Milwaukee, Wis.) and nine points, plus seven rebounds, from junior Ja'maine Davenport (Mays Landing, N.J.).

UNE cut the Bulldog lead to 11 early in the second half, and then later down to ten on an Adam Lux three pointer, but the Nor'Easters could not slash the lead into single digits for the remainder of the contest. Dean responded to every run and pushed the advantage up to 20 midway through the second half on a layup from Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) Vasquez had 12 of his season-high 18 points in the second half. The visitors trimmed the gap back to 14 a few minutes later, but Dean again countered, scoring on a Christian Yeates (Atlanta, Ga.) and consecutive layups by sophomore Frankie Idlett (Miami, Fla.) to push the lead back to 19 and put the game out of reach.

Barnes led all Dean scorers with 27. Vasquez finished with 18 points and eight boards. Farrow scored 13 and Yeates recorded 12. Idlett recorded 11 points, nine of which were in the second half. Davenport and Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) provided the spark off the bench, with nine and seven points, respectively.

Dean shot 51% from the field to the Nor'Easters 42%. Both teams posted mediocre numbers from three point range, with the Bulldogs shooting 4-13 (31%), and the visitors shooting 9-32 (28%). Dean held a 25-14 advantage in second chance points and a 56-34 edge in points in the paint.

The Bulldogs (7-0) will be back in action after Thanksgiving break, hosting Framingham State on Monday at 6 p.m.
