FRANKLIN, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs fell to New England College 2-0 on Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt on a picturesque fall Saturday at Longley Athletic Complex.
Noel Huliselan started the scoring for the Pilgrims, finishing a feed from
Santiago Sanchez in the 12th minute to give the Pilgrims the early lead. With two minutes to go before the half,
Chase Gurtowsky doubled the visitor's advantage, scoring unassisted to give NEC the 2-0 lead at the halftime break. Dean was outshot 12-9 in the first period despite a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half was scoreless; both teams had chances turned aside by stellar goalie play. Dean's
Jake Godwin (Norwalk, Conn.) made six second half saves (11 total) to keep the Pilgrims from extending their advantage. New England College keeper
Hayden Walker stood tall in his goal, making eight saves in the shutout. No saves were bigger than the two he made in the final moments, First, Walker made a diving stop on an outside shot from junior
Brian Allen (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) that was headed for the upper corner. Moments later, he made another diving stop an a header from junior
Chris Tunley (Las Vegas, Nev.) to preserve the shutout and seal the victory.
Dean (3-10-1 overall, 2-8-1 GNAC) travels to Emmanuel on Wednesday for a GNAC matchup with the Saints at 7:00 p.m.
