SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 non-conference contest to the Springfield College Pride on a chilly Thursday evening in western Massachusetts. Dean falls to 7-8 on the year, while the hosts improved to 5-9 on the season.
Despite a 7-0 lead in shots for Springfield, the first half remained scoreless. Dean first-year goalie
Sara Gardner (Hampstead, Md.) stood tall in the goal, making five saves, including four in the second quarter alone. The Pride broke through in the second half, however, scoring three goals on fifteen shots to take the game over.
The hosts scored first, midway through the third quarter, when
Anna Beck assisted
Kate O'Conor. Ten minutes later, Springfield struck again on a penalty stroke goal from
Nicollette Morlock. The Pride's final goal came in the last five minutes of the game, an insurance goal off the stick of
Kristyn Vasselin, assisted by O'Connor.Â
Springfield outshot the Bulldogs 22-1 and held a 8-2 lead in penalty corners. Junior
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) recorded the Bulldogs lone shot. Gardner finished with 12 saves in 60 minutes of action.
Up next for Dean, a quick turnaround, as the Bulldogs travel to Colby-Sawyer on Saturday for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at 12:00 p.m.Â
