NEW LONDON, Conn.- The Dean College Bulldogs fell 2-1 to Mitchell College on Tuesday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action.
Mitchell took the lead in the early going when
Snadooby Robert scored in the 17th minute, unassisted. The teams went into halftime with the score at 1-0, despite Dean leading in shots, 9-4, and corner kicks, 3-2.
In the second half, the Bulldogs found the back of the net quickly. Senior
Sean Doherty (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored his second goal in as many games, depositing a penalty kick into the back of the net in the 58th minute to level the score. Mitchell quickly responded to wrestle back the advantage, scoring in the 63rd minute on a goal from
Nathan Da Cruz, his fifth of the season, assisted by
Dylan Lucey.
Dean threatened over the final 30 minutes, outshooting the Mariners 10-8 in the second half, but could not break through for the equalizer.
Junior goalkeeper
Jake Godwin (Norwalk, Conn.) registered five saves in 90 minutes of action.
Jake Richard (Townsend, Mass.),
Chris Tunley (Las Vegas, Nev.) and
Andrew Dalton (Norton, Mass.) also recorded multiple shots for the Bulldogs.
Dean (3-9-1 overall, 2-7-1 GNAC) is back in action on Saturday when they host the New England College Pilgrims on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Longley Field.
