NASHUA, N.H.- The Dean College Bulldogs men's soccer team was upended on the road by the Rivier Raiders, 3-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
Rivier wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, scoring in the third minute on a goal by
Jason Harlow, assisted by
Hayden Bilodeau and
Jose Ochoa. The Bulldogs responded 20 minutes later, scoring the equalizing goal off a penalty kick by senior
Sean Doherty (Chelmsford, Mass.). Right before the halftime break, Rivier regained the lead on an unassisted marker by
Jayden Medlin. At the half, Rivier held a 10-4 lead in shots.
In the second half, the Bulldogs provided pressure, launching seven shots, but the Rivier defense was up to the task, keeping the Bulldogs off the score sheet for the remainder of the game. The hosts added an insurance goal in the 77th minute when
Thomas Hennessy assisted
Jonathan Rudy to put the Raiders ahead by the decisive 3-1 score.
Jake Godwin (Norwalk, Conn.) played the whole game in the goal and finished with six saves for Dean. Doherty led the Bulldogs with five shots (four on goal), while
Jake Richard (Townsend, Mass.) and
Brian Allen (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) each had two. Doherty's goal was his first of the season and the sixth of his career. He scored four in 2023, including two game-winners.
Dean (3-8-1 overall, 2-6-1 GNAC) had a two-game unbeaten streak snapped, as the Bulldogs had registered a tie and a win in last week's results. Next up, is a road contest on Mitchell on Tuesday at 4:00 p,m. Dean has won three of their five meetings with MItchell including last year's 3-2 win on September 27th.
