WELLESLEY, Mass. – January 8, 2024 – The Dean College women's basketball team fell at Wellesley, 75-42, on Monday afternoon.
Dean (2-11) returns to conference action on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. tip against New England College in Pieri Gymnasium. Wellesley (7-5) will host Clark on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Junior
Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) was the lone Bulldog in double figures with 13 points. First-year
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) finished with seven rebounds and five assists. Junior
Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) chipped in with eight points, six rebounds and a couple of steals.
1st Quarter
- Wellesley began the game on a 9-2 run and led 21-7 after the first.
- The Blue scored 10 points off Dean turnovers.
- Viau had five points for the Bulldogs.
2nd Quarter
- The home team scored all eight of their buckets inside the paint for a 16-12 advantage on the scoreboard in the second.
- Dean shot a higher percentage than Wellesley 33.3% to 32%.
- Viau added another five points.
3rd Quarter
- .The Blue went 62.5% from the floor in the third to increase the lead to 59-32 after 30 minutes.
- Cournoyer led the Dean offense with four points.
- Viau, Doane and first-year Abi Boutin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) each made a three-pointer in the frame as the team went 3-for-4 from long range.
4th Quarter
- First-year Makayla Swan (Middlebury, Vt.) scored all six points of her points in the fourth quarter to lead Dean.
- The Bulldogs shot 40% and held Wellesley to 33.3% shooting.
- The home team outscored the visitors 16-10 for the 75-42 final.
