Bulldogs Topped by New England College

FRANKLIN, Mass. – January 10, 2024 – The Dean College women's basketball team was defeated by New England College (NEC), 76-41, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Wednesday night.  

Dean (2-12, 0-4 GNAC) travels to Colby-Sawyer on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip. NEC (7-7, 2-2 GNAC) plays at Lasell on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Junior Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) led Dean with 12 points. First-year Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) finished with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds. First-year Abi Boutin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and senior Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) each added seven points.

Kathleen Rodriguez posted 14 points and eight boards to lead the Pilgrims. Amya Moss scored 10 points, while Zaniya Moody grabbed a team best nine rebounds.

1st Quarter
  • The Bulldogs trailed by one at 8-7 after a Doane three-pointer midway through the quarter.
  • NEC finished the frame on a 7-3 run to lead 15-10 after 10 minutes.
  • The Pilgrims scored 10 points in the paint, led by Rodriguez with six.
  • Thomas had four points and two rebounds to lead Dean.
2nd Quarter
  • Dean kept the game close by shooting 62.5% from the floor in the second quarter.
  • NEC added another 10 points in the paint to add to the lead at the half, 35-28.
  • Rodriguez scored six more points for NEC.
  • Viau poured in nine points for the Bulldogs.
3rd Quarter
  • The visitors pulled away in the third with a 21-5 advantage on the scoreboard.
  • For the third quarter in a row, NEC had 10 points in the paint.
  • The Pilgrims made nine buckets and shot 56.3%.
4th Quarter
  • Half of the fourth quarter points scored came from the free throw line.
  • NEC went 8-of-11 from the charity stripe, while Dean shot 6-of-7.
  • The visitors outscored Dean 20-8 for the 76-41 final.
