Men's Basketball Falls to Lasell, 82-70

FRANKLIN, Mass. – January 16, 2024 – The Dean College men's basketball team fell to Lasell, 82-70, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action inside Pieri Gymnasium Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs (6-10, 2-4 GNAC) have a quick turnaround with a 6 p.m. tip tomorrow at UMaine-Augusta. Lasell (10-6, 4-1 GNAC) hosts Anna Maria on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Senior AJ Weston (Kansas City, Mo) had 22 points for the Bulldogs. Senior Charles Walker (Princeton, N.C.) was next with 15 points. Senior Jayden Madise (Palmdale, Calif.) notched a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Deon Blakemore Jr. (Houma, La.) was the fourth Bulldog in double figures with 11 points.

Junior Marcus Lewis (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led all players with 26 points and 11 rebounds for Lasell. Junior Karim Belhouchet (Newton, Mass.) finished with 17 points and six assists, while freshman Che Hanks (Chelsea, Mass.) added 16 points and five assists. Juniors Greg Farrow (Milwaukee, Wisc.) and Gabe Qua (Suffield, Conn.) also scored in double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Dean raced out to an 8-3 lead to force a quick timeout by Lasell. The home team held a lead until the Lasers went in front 19-18 on a Farrow 3-pointer. Lasell then took its largest lead at 37-30 after a pair of free throws by Qua with less than two minutes to play. Dean finished strong with a 5-2 run to pull within 39-35 after 20 minutes. Belhouchet had 11 points and Qua had 10 for the Lasers in the half, while Walker led the Bulldogs with nine points.

The game was tied at 52-52 after a pair of Weston free throws, but Lasell went on an 11-1 run to result in a Dean timeout at 10:13. A minute later, the Lasers lead ballooned to its largest at 14 points. The Bulldogs pulled within eight with less than two minutes to play, but Lasell went 6-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to put the game away, 82-70.
