NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 13, 2024 – The Dean College women's basketball team fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Colby-Sawyer 77-37, on Saturday afternoon.
Next up, Dean (2-13, 0-5 GNAC) hosts Lasell on Tuesday. Colby-Sawyer (4-10, 1-3 GNAC) plays at New England College on Tuesday, as well.
Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) led the Bulldogs with 10 points.
Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) chipped in seven, while
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) added six points and 10 boards.
1st Quarter
- Back and forth play highlighted the outset, with both teams trading buckets in the early going.
- A three pointer from Makayla Swan (Middlebury, Vt.), gave Dean an early lead at 3-2.
- Tied 7-7, Colby-Sawyer went on a 6-2 run to end the quarter with a 13-9 lead.
2nd Quarter
- Colby-Sawyer opened the second frame on a run, extending their lead to 30-19 on a 3 pointer from Gabby Lucertini.
- Two more triples and a layup on ensuing possessions swelled the hosts advantage to 40-19 with 1:34 to play in the half.
- A three from Marissa Holt with 3 seconds to play in the period gave Colby-Sawyer a 47-21 lead at the half.
3rd Quarter
- In a low scoring third quarter that saw only 17 total points, Dean held a 9-8 advantage on the scoreboard, trimming Colby-Sawyer's lead to 55-30 at the end of the quarter.
4th Quarter
- Colby-Sawyer stepped on the gas in the fourth, controlling the action with a 22-7 advantage in the final stanza.
- The hosts shot 50% from the field, including 57% from behind the arc.
