NORTHFIELD, Vt. – September 30, 2023 – The Dean College women's soccer team lost a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road match at Norwich, 4-2, Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (4-5-1, 3-4-1 GNAC) continue a stretch of four road games on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. match at Simmons. Norwich (2-5-2, 1-4-2 GNAC) hosts New England College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
In an evenly played first half, the Bulldogs broke through in the 36th minute when senior
Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) scored from a tough angle near the end line into the far upper corner of the net. The goal was Sztyler-Magee's team leading eighth of the season.
Norwich tied the score early in the second half with a goal by Sam Penacho.
Less than two minutes later, Sztyler-Magee gave Dean the lead with her ninth of the season. She broke free from the Norwich defenders and after making a move by the oncoming goalie, scored into the open net.
The Cadets answered once again, four minutes later, on a Bella Roy goal from 25 yards out that went just over the head of the Dean goalie.
Norwich took its first lead of the match in the 74th minute on a header by Roy off a corner kick pass from Lindsey Duggan.
The home team tacked on an insurance goal in the 81st minute on a goal by Antonia Pellon.
Junior goalie
Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) made four saves in the loss for Dean. Rebecca Karis earned the win for the Cadets with three saves.
Norwich finished the match with a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corners.
