Women's Soccer Topped by Rhode Island College, 3-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 3, 2023 – The Dean College women's soccer team fell to visiting Rhode Island College, 3-0, in a non-conference match on a blistering Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (1-1) will begin conference play on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home contest against Anna Maria. RIC (1-0-1) hosts Salve Regina on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Anchorwomen put their first goal on the board in the 16th minute. First-year Grace Auckerman (Ashford, Conn.) attempted a header that hit off the left post, but right to sophomore teammate Olivia Williams (Riverside, R.I.). She was able to body the ball into the net for her first tally of the season.

RIC doubled its lead in the 25th minute when sophomore Tayshia Cary (Wakefield, R.I.) found junior Serena Forte (Hope, R.I.) in the six-yard box. Forte side-stepped a Dean defender and kept the ball on the ground scoring into the far corner of the goal.

The visitors added a third goal in the 52nd minute. Junior Marissa Ruzzano (Smithfield, R.I.) sent a bounding ball towards the goal that was then flicked home by Cary for her first goal of the season.

Dean sophomore goalie Lexi Gerow (Pownal, Vt.) was saddled with the loss after allowing two goals with eight saves in the first half. Junior Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) played the second half and allowed one goal with six saves.

RIC keeper Chloe Angelone (Bayville, N.Y.) was credited with the win with 75 minutes of work and two saves, while first-year Nicole Nunes (Smithfield, R.I.) played the final 15 minutes to earn the combined clean sheet.

Bulldogs first-year forward Kacie Consolini (Stafford Springs, Conn.) led the team with two shots on target.
