FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 20, 2023 – The Dean College women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Colby-Sawyer in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Wednesday night. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 26-24.
Dean (3-8, 2-1 GNAC) travels to the University of Saint Joseph (CT) on Saturday for a conference tri-match with the Blue Jays and Emmanuel. Colby-Sawyer (1-11, 0-1 GNAC) plays a tri-match at Lasell with Elms on Saturday.
Junior
Janai Price (Providence, R.I.) led a balanced Dean attack with seven kills. She added 11 digs. Seniors
Jenny Galley (Pembroke, Mass.) and
Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) each had five kills. Albury also had three blocks. Sophomore
Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, N.H.) finished with four kills with no errors and three blocks. Sophomore
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, Mass.) tallied a match best 15 digs. First-year
Emma Siniscalchi (Huntington, N.Y.) registered 11 assists, while junior
Rae Edwards (Westfield, Mass.) recorded five aces.
The Colby-Sawyer attack was led by junior Ally Majenski's (Marshfield, Mass.) seven kills. Juniors Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) and Abby Williams (Brentwood, N.H.) added six kills apiece. Junior libero Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) picked up a team best 14 digs.
The first set featured five ties and three lead changes. With the score tied at 15-15, Dean scored the next six points to take command. An Albury kill brought the Bulldogs within set point and on the ensuing rally, Colby-Sawyer had an attack error to give Dean the 25-19 win.
The Chargers raced out to a 12-5 lead in the second set. Dean junior
Emily Ball (Feeding Hills, Mass.) then stepped to the service line and rallied the team for an 8-0 run and a 13-12 lead. Colby-Sawyer regained an 18-15 lead after a kill from Ari Cuevas (Somersworth, N.H.).
Rae Edwards then served to bring the Bulldogs back. Dean rallied again with another 8-0 run, including five aces by Edwards, to take a 23-18 lead. The Chargers pulled within 24-23, but Cooper finished a ball for the kill and the second set victory for Dean.
The third set had eight ties and four lead changes. A kill by Delaney Skourtis (Tilton, N.H.) pulled the Chargers even at 23-23. Cooper answered with a kill for Dean, but the Chargers benefited from a service error to tie the set again at 24-24. After a Colby-Sawyer attack error, Dean finished the set and the match with Albury's fifth kill of the evening.
