CHICOPEE, Mass. – September 20, 2023 – The Dean College field hockey team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday night after defeating Elms 3-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup.
The win also marks the first for Head Coach
Megan Baker.
Dean (1-7, 1-3 GNAC) returns home on Saturday to host Anna Maria at noon. Elms (0-7, 0-3 GNAC) travels to Regis on Saturday.
In the final 3:16 of the first quarter, sophomore
Bella Petrus (Weedsport, N.Y.) recorded her first and second collegiate goals to give Dean a 2-0 advantage. Her second goal, scored with 26 seconds left in the frame, was set up by first-year teammate
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.).
Elms got on the board six minutes into the second, to cut the Dean lead in half. Samantha Bonneau connected for a goal off a feed by Elizabeth Franzoni.
Less than four minutes later, the Bulldogs answered with their third goal of the game. Sophomore
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) sent a pass to first-year
Tristyn Williams (Harwich, Mass.) who notched her first collegiate goal that gave Dean the 3-1 lead.
Senior goalie
Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) allowed one goal and made one save to earn the victory. Elms goalie Kaitlyn Lynes allowed three goals and made nine saves in the loss.
Dean outshot the Blazers 17-3 and had a 12-6 edge in penalty corners.
