FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 23, 2023 – The Dean College field hockey team lost a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game to Anna Maria, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Grant Field.
Dean (1-8, 1-4 GNAC) travels to Rivier next Saturday for an 11 a.m. game against the Raiders. Anna Maria (2-5, 2-2 GNAC) plays at Saint Joseph's (ME) on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first quarter, Anna Maria capitalized on a penalty corner midway through the second. Senior Eden Forget (Worcester, Mass.) sent the ball to the top of the circle where graduate student Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, Mass.) was positioned. Sonia stopped the ball, took a step inside, and ripped a shot through traffic and into the back of the cage for her first tally of the season.
Almost nine minutes into the third quarter, the AMCATS doubled their lead when first-year Kennedy Etheridge (Worcester, Mass.) lifted the ball over a sprawling Dean goalkeeper for her first collegiate goal.
In similar fashion to Anna Maria's first goal of the game, Forget and Sonia connected on another penalty corner. This time, Sonia sent the ball to the top where Forget took the shot and scored.
The visitors added a fourth goal with three minutes remaining in the game. First-year August Otto (Jackson, Wy.) sent a pass towards the front of the cage where senior Nicole Lacoste (Rochdale, Mass.) finished the job to give the AMCATS the 4-0 lead.
Senior goalie
Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) had seven saves for the Bulldogs. Graduate student Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, Mass.) earned the win for Anna Maria with three scoreless quarters of action. First-year Carly Dedrick (Manchester, N.H.) worked the final quarter to help preserve the shutout.
