Men's Soccer Falls at Saint Joseph (CT), 4-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – September 13, 2023 – The Dean College men's soccer team fell at the University of Saint Joseph (CT), 4-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Wednesday evening.

Dean (2-2-1, 0-2-1 GNAC), who has played four out of five games on the road to start the season, returns home to host Elms on Saturday at 4 p.m. Saint Joseph (3-0-1, 1-0-1 GNAC) is scheduled to host Rivier on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Blue Jays were held without a shot for the first 18+ minutes of the contest before being awarded a penalty kick. Michael Torres successfully converted for the 1-0 lead.

USJ carried the momentum to score two more times in the first half. Torres set up teammate Jason Moleiro with a thru ball at the top of the box. Moleiro sent a left-footed shot into the opposite corner for the 2-0 lead.

Five minutes later, the Blue Jays went on top by three when Emmanuel Ofori had a break-away chance and beat the charging Dean goalie.

USJ keeper El Hadji Anne kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the first by saving their best chance with a penalty kick.

Torres added another goal in the 71st minute for the 4-0 advantage.

Dean sophomore goalie Jake Godwin (Norwalk, Conn.) allowed three goals in the first half. Senior Alberto Gonzalez Del Rio (Madrid, Spain) played the second half with three saves and one goal allowed. Anne secured the clean sheet with four saves for the Blue Jays.

Each team had 13 shots with USJ holding a 7-4 edge in shots on target.
