Sztyler-Magee’s Hat Trick Helps Dean to 5-1 Win over MCLA

FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 1, 2023 – Dean College senior Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) netted a hat trick, the fourth of her career, to lift the women's soccer team to a 5-1 season opening victory over MCLA.

The Bulldogs (1-0), who are 1-1-1 in their last three season openers, will play its second of five straight home games to begin the season on Sunday against Rhode Island College at 3 p.m. MCLA (0-1) travels to Anna Maria on Sunday with a noon start.

Dean found the back of the net in the third minute of the contest after earning a corner kick. Junior Lea Bettencourt (Peabody, Mass.) sent a bending ball into the six-yard box where first-year Kacie Consolini (Stafford Springs, Conn.) jumped and headed the ball home for her first collegiate tally.

In the 41st minute, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead on Sztyler-Magee's first score of the contest.

Less than two minutes later, the Trailblazers cut the deficit in half with a strong strike from sophomore Cidnee Frymire (Tonawanda, N.Y.) that ricocheted off the Dean goalie.

Sztyler-Magee put the home team back in front by a pair with an unassisted tally 3:04 into the second half.

The senior striker got the hat trick in the 57th minute when she finished a nifty feed from junior Lisette Ayala (Chicopee, Mass.) into the far corner of the goal.

Dean tacked on a fifth goal in the 68th minute after receiving a penalty kick for a dangerous play in the box. Bettencourt stepped to the spot and delivered her first goal of the season.

Dean junior goalie Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) allowed one goal and made one save in the first half of action, while sophomore Lexi Gerow (Pownal, Vt.) played the second half and did not face a shot. MCLA keeper Eva Eberwein (Dalton, Mass.) made 10 saves for the Trailblazers.
