Bulldogs Soar Past Albertus Magnus, 16-5

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – April 8, 2023 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team topped Albertus Magnus, 16-5, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game Saturday afternoon.

Dean (7-3, 3-3 GNAC) travels to Johnson & Wales for a 7 p.m. GNAC game Tuesday night.

Junior Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) and Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) led Dean with seven points apiece. Alvarez-Segee had six goals and an assist, while Speirs finished with five goals and two assists. Junior Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 13-of-23 faceoffs and picked up seven ground balls.

Albertus Magnus (7-4, 1-4 GNAC) received goals from five different players. Jon Olson was one of the goal scorers and he added an assist.

Dean senior goalie James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) earned the win with three goals allowed and one save in the first three quarters. Sophomore Jake Sock (Warwick, R.I.) played the final quarter and allowed two goals with one save. Albertus goalie Dane Walsh made 16 saves and gave up 12 goals in 45 minutes, while Wally Carroll played 15 minutes with four goals allowed and a couple of saves.

The Bulldogs held a 3-0 advantage after the first 15 minutes. Alvarez-Segee scored twice in the first quarter to lead the visitors.

Speirs scored the first three goals of the second frame to push the Dean lead to 6-0. Albertus broke through with a goal from Kader Price with 4:15 on the clock, but Dean got goals from sophomore Owen Brine (Lebanon, N.H.) and Alvarez-Segee to close the half for an 8-1 lead.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs went on top 11-1 after two goals from Alvarez-Segee and one from Speirs. The Falcons sandwiched goals around a score from sophomore Jaden Wise (Belchertown, Mass.) to make the score 12-3 heading into the fourth.

Dean added to its lead by outscoring Albertus 4-2 in the last to secure an impressive 16-5 GNAC road win.
