STANDISH, Maine – April 3, 2023 - The Dean College baseball team fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader Monday afternoon. The Monks won game one 10-3 and game two 8-5.
Dean returns home on Wednesday to host Lesley for a non-conference tilt at 3:30 p.m.
GAME ONE – Saint Joseph's 10, Dean 3 (7 inn.)
Dean took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning when senior
Brayden McLaughlin (Forest Grove, Ore.) singled home sophomore
Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.).
Saint Joseph's tied the game in the second on an RBI double from Jackson Stanton.
In the third, the Monks scored twice to take a 3-1 lead.
The home team added three runs in the fourth and three in the fifth for a 9-1 advantage. Stanton and Jared Wilhelm each had a two-run double.
The Bulldogs answered with a pair in the top of the sixth on a two-run single to center by McLaughlin.
Saint Joseph's plated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and got three outs in the seventh to come away with the 10-3 victory.
McLaughlin went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Senior
Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) finished 3 for 5 to record his seventh multi-hit game of the season.
GAME TWO – Saint Joseph's 8, Dean 5 (9 inn.)
Wilhelm got the Monks on the board by scoring on a passed by in the first.
Michael Werne doubled the lead for Saint Joseph's with an RBI single in the second.
In the fourth, Stanton came around on a double by Matt Thibault to put the Monks in front by three.
Saint Joseph's scored three times on two hits and an error in the sixth inning to push the lead to 7-0.
Dean broke through with a run in the eighth. Senior
Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) singled home first-year
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.).
Thibault answered for the Monks with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth.
The Bulldogs didn't go quietly in their last at-bat, plating four runs to make the final 8-5. First-year
Spencer Lichstrahl (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had an RBI single and then scored on junior
Carlos Silva's (Tucson, Ariz.) pinch-hit three-run homer, the first of his collegiate career.
Dovidio finished with three hits to push his hit streak to six in a row. He has hit safely in 11 of the last 12 games. First-year
Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) also had three hits.
Each team finished with 10 hits.
