Women's Lacrosse Posts Program Record Seventh Win with 18-10 Road Victory at Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. – April 22, 2023 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team earned an 18-10 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road win at Lasell to record a program best seventh victory of the season.

Dean (7-8, 6-6 GNAC) travels to Mitchell on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season at Norwich on Wednesday.

Sophomore Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) led the Bulldogs with a career-high seven goals to go with an assist. Senior Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) tallied five goals, an assist and 12 draw controls. Senior Allie Bezio (Wellfleet, Mass.) added a hat trick. First-year Carly Rettberg (Haddam, Conn.) recorded her first career goal.

Lasell (2-13, 2-10 GNAC) received three goals apiece from Teresa Kessner and Kaitlin Bedell. Emily Chapdelaine added two goals and an assist.

First-year goalie Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) made 13 saves to earn a record seventh victory. Lasell keeper Joy Sayah also had 13 saves.

Brown got the scoring started with a goal three minutes into the contest. After two scores by Lasell, the Bulldogs answered with goals from Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) and Brown. Kessner knotted the score at 3-3 for Lasell, but Gaunt scored twice in the final four minutes of the quarter to give Dean a 5-3 lead after 15 minutes.

The visitors increased their advantage by outscoring Lasell 4-3 in the second quarter, including three more goals from Gaunt. Brown scored with 21 seconds left in the half to send Dean to the break with a 9-6 lead.

Dean took control with a strong third quarter by scoring six straight goals to take a 15-6 lead before Lasell notched a late goal.  

Each team scored three times in the final quarter for an 18-10 score.
