Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Finale to Johnson & Wales

FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 19, 2023 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales (JWU), 19-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game at Grant Field on Wednesday.

Dean (6-8, 5-6 GNAC) plays at Lasell on Saturday at noon. Johnson & Wales (11-2, 11-0 GNAC) travels to Colby-Sawyer on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Sophomore Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) had two goals for Dean. Senior Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) registered a goal, two assists and a game best nine draw controls.

JWU received eight points from senior Taina Gamory (Warwick, N.Y.). She scored six times and added two assists. Sophomore Madeleine Gould (Oakdale, Conn.) had six points on five goals and an assist, while junior Maris DiBeneditto (Southbury, Conn.) finished with four goals and two assists. Sophomore Neely Connor (Kennebunk, Maine) had game-highs of six ground balls and five caused turnovers.

First-year goalie Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) finished with 11 saves for Dean. Sophomore Emma Glyman (Tolland, Conn.) allowed two goals and made seven saves to earn the win in three quarters of work. First-year Liberty Conlin (Granby, Mass.) played the fourth quarter and allowed one goal.

The Wildcats scored five goals in the first quarter with two apiece from Gould and Gamory.

Gaunt got Dean on the board with the first goal of the second quarter, but JWU responded with four straight to take a 9-1 lead. Gaunt scored again for the Bulldogs to stop the run. JWU answered by scoring the final three goals of the half for a 12-2 lead after 30 minutes.

JWU added four goals in the third with two from DiBeneditto.

After a pair of goals by the visitors to begin the final frame, Maire Brown notched her lone goal of the contest for Dean. Gamory tacked on one more goal for the Wildcats in the final minute for the 19-3 victory.
