DUDLEY, Mass. – April 19, 2023 – The Dean College baseball team dropped a non-conference game at Nichols, 6-5.   

Dean (8-22) hosts Elms on Saturday at noon for a conference doubleheader. The team will also celebrate senior day. Nichols (12-16) hosts UMass Boston tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.

Nichols began the scoring with a run on a sac fly in the first.

The Bison built a 5-0 lead with four runs in the second. Brad Ellis knocked in a pair with a double, while Brennan Hyde hit a two-run homer to center.

Dean answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Senior Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) came in on an RBI ground out by senior Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) for the Bulldogs' first run. First-year Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) later scored on a Brayden McLaughlin (Forest Grove, Ore.) sac fly.

Nichols got a run back in the fourth on an Ellis RBI single to push the lead to 6-2.

Sophomore Cam Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) scored a run for Dean in the sixth on a ground out by sophomore James Galati (Eastchester, N.Y.).

The Bulldogs rallied in the ninth inning to score two but would come up one run short. Dovidio knocked in a run with a double and then scored on a McLaughlin single.

Dovidio pushed his average to .409 with three more hits tonight. McLaughlin also finished with three knocks to go with two RBIs. Watkins, Sullivan and senior Owen Liscio (Norwalk, Conn.) had two hits apiece.
