LEXINGTON, Mass. – April 12, 2023 – The Dean College baseball team was edged by Lesley, 7-5, in a night game on Wednesday.
The two teams met in Franklin last Wednesday with the Bulldogs earning a 6-5 win in 11 innings.
Dean (5-20) resumes conference action with a pair of home doubleheaders this weekend beginning on Saturday against Norwich at noon. Lesley (9-14) also resumes conference play on Saturday with a twin bill at Eastern Nazarene.
Dean began the scoring in the top of the first on an RBI groundout by first-year
Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) that scored sophomore
Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.) who reached on an error.
Lesley scored a pair in the second on an RBI triple by Andrew Gryniewicz and a sac fly from Christian McElroy.
Gryniewicz gave the Lynx a 3-1 lead in the fourth with an RBI single to center.
In the top of the fifth, senior
DeMarcus King (Austin, Texas) knocked in sophomore
Cam Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) with a ground out to second to pull Dean within 3-2. Watkins led off the inning with his second triple of the season.
In the sixth, with two men on and two out, Watkins tripled for the second time in two innings to drive in a pair. King, the next batter, then doubled to bring home Watkins for 5-3 Bulldogs lead.
Lesley quickly answered with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth to retake a 6-5 lead. McElroy singled in two runs and was followed with a sac fly by Adam Budorick that scored Gryniewicz.
Gryniewicz knocked in his third run of the game with a run-scoring fielder's choice in the seventh to push the Lesley advantage to 7-5.
Watkins was 2 for 4 with two triples, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Bulldogs. King went 1 for 4 with two RBIs.
Gryniewicz finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while McElroy went 1 for 3 with three RBIs to lead the Lynx.
First-year
Connor Nooney (Long Beach, N.Y.) had a scoreless inning of relief for Dean.
