Dean Comes Back for 9-4 Win over MCLA

FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 11, 2023 – Trailing 4-0 in the sixth, the Dean College baseball team scored nine runs in the next three innings to come away with a 9-4 victory over MCLA on Tuesday afternoon.  

Dean (5-19) travels to Lesley on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game with the Lynx at Minuteman High School. MCLA (7-14) hosts Framingham State on Friday at 3 p.m.

Senior Austin Rachiele (Pittsfield, Mass.) took the first pitch of the game and deposited it over the right center fence to give MCLA the early 1-0 lead. The Trailblazers scored twice more in the first on a throwing error and an RBI single by junior Noel Medina (Bronx, N.Y.).

In the top of the sixth, Medina scored when freshman Michael Wormuth (Wynantskill, N.Y) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give MCLA a 4-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs broke through in a big way with six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) got things going with a two-run single. He later scored on an error. First-year Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.) knocked in first-year Nick Amendolara (Bayville, N.Y.) with a sac fly. First-year Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) then came through with a pinch-hit two-run single.

Dean added a pair of runs in the seventh when Sullivan doubled to score two.

The home team tacked on a ninth run in the eighth. Senior Brayden McLaughlin (Forest Grove, Ore.) had an RBI single that scored sophomore Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.).

Sullivan finished 2 for 5 with four RBIs. Senior Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.), sophomore Joey Bossinas (Ossining, N.Y.), McLaughlin and Cruz also had two hits apiece.

First-year Mason Neumann (Middletown, Conn.) picked up his first collegiate victory with an inning of scoreless relief. Senior Matt Hallinan (Stamford, Conn.) also tossed a couple of scoreless innings, while first-year Hunter Espinosa (East Haddam, Conn.) retired all three batters he faced.

Senior Rob Correia (Waterbury, Conn.) pitched three scoreless innings to begin the game for the Trailblazers. He allowed two hits and struck out one.
