NORTH PORT, Fla. - March 9, 2023 - The Dean College baseball team continued its week with a pair of games in North Port at the Snowbird Classic.
Dean lost to Heidelberg (3-5) 13-1 in the first game of the day and was edged by Rhode Island College (5-5) by a 7-6 final.
The Bulldogs conclude their spring break trip tomorrow with a 2 p.m. game against Lebanon Valley College.
HEIDELBERG 13, DEAN 1
The Student Princes scored their 13 runs on 17 hits. They scored twice in the second and pushed the lead to 8-0 with six runs in the third.
Heidelberg added three more in the fifth before Dean got on the board in the bottom of the eighth.
Senior
Brayden McLaughlin (Forest Grove, Ore.) knocked in Dean's run with an RBI pinch-hit single that scored sophomore
Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.).
Heidelberg added a pair in the ninth for the 13-1 final.
First-year
Kiefer Culligan (South Windsor, Conn.), first-year
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and first-year
Colin Favata (Syosset, Mass.) each had a hit in the contest.
RIC 7, DEAN 6
In an evenly matched contest, RIC scored seven runs on 14 hits and Dean scored six times on 13 hits.
First-year
Spencer Lichstrahl (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) earned his first start for the Bulldogs and made it count by going 3-for-4 at the plate to record his first collegiate knocks.
Brayden McLaughlin added three more hits to his day at the plate, while
Seth Cruz and
Joey Bossinas (Ossining, N.Y.) each had a couple of hits.
The Anchormen plated three runs on four hits in the first inning. RIC then added a run in the third on a sac fly and another in the fourth on an RBI single to lead 5-0 after four frames.
Dean took a 6-5 lead in the fifth with six runs on four hits and an error. The first two runs came around on an error. McLaughlin then knocked in sophomore
Trent Bender (Binghamton, N.Y.) with a double. Bossinas then singled in
Jacob Paschetto to make the score 5-4. Dean took the lead after a pair of bases loaded walks by
Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) and
Seth Cruz.
RIC knotted the score at 6-6 with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
The winning run for the Anchormen came across in the eighth on an RBI single.
First-year
Connor Nooney (Long Beach, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss after two innings of relief. He gave up one earned run on four hits.
