Balanced Attack Leads Dean to 22-7 Win at MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – March 28, 2023 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team had seven players score at least once en route to a 22-7 non-conference victory at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Tuesday afternoon.

Dean (4-4) will resume conference action on Friday against Colby-Sawyer at 4 p.m. on Grant Field. MCLA (1-1) hosts NVU-Lyndon on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Senior Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) led the Bulldogs with six goals, one assist, seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Senior Allie Bezio (Wellfleet, Mass.) registered four goals and three assists. Sophomore Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) contributed three goals, three assists, six draw controls and four ground balls. Sophomores Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) each scored three times, while Medeiros picked up a game best 10 ground balls.

Nina Reyes and Julia Graham had three goals apiece to lead the Trailblazers.

First-year goalie Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) earned the victory and made seven saves. Lori Lester had 24 saves for MCLA.

Dean scored the first eight goals of the contest and ended the opening quarter with a 9-2 lead. Brown scored three times to lead the Bulldogs.

The visitors began the second quarter in a similar fashion to the first with four unanswered scores, including a pair from Peterson, to take a 13-2 advantage. MCLA then scored three times to close out the half, 13-5. Reyes had a pair of goals for the Trailblazers.

Once again, the Bulldogs scored four times to start the third quarter to take a commanding 17-5 lead. Dean received goals from four different players in the run, including the first collegiate tally by junior Gabbie Taynor (Newburyport, Mass.). MCLA had another strong finish to the frame with goals by Reyes and Graham.

Dean added five goals in the fourth to secure the 22-7 victory. On Bezio's goal with 3:25 on the clock, goalie Stockwell was credited with an assist.
