Men's Volleyball Defeated by Regis, 3-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 28, 2023 – The Dean College men's volleyball team was defeated by Regis, 3-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action inside Pieri Gymnasium Tuesday evening. The Pride won by scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-12.

Dean (3-14, 0-9 GNAC) will host Emmanuel on Thursday at 6 p.m. Regis (9-13, 4-6 GNAC) hosts Lasell tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

Senior Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) and junior Aaron Fonseca (Cranston, R.I.) had four kills apiece to lead Dean. Fonseca picked up a team best seven digs. First-year Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.) registered 13 assists and two kills. Senior Nick Carlson (Warwick, R.I.) finished with a couple of kills, five digs, an ace and two blocks.

Regis was led by junior Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.). He posted 13 kills with no errors to hit .565 and added four blocks. Graduate student Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied six kills, four assists and three aces. Sophomore Francesco Buanne (Caserta, Italy) also had six kills.

The Pride began the match with four straight points. Dean answered by scoring three of the next four points, but Regis went on a 10-1 run to take a 15-4 lead. Perez had eight kills in the set to lead the visitors to the 25-7 win.

Regis used a 6-1 run to open the second set. Dean pulled within 7-4 after a Fonseca kill. Another 8-1 run by the Pride gave the visitors a nice 15-5 cushion. The Bulldogs had seven kills in the set with each one coming from a different player. Plagata had four for the Pride in the 25-14 second set victory.

The Pride earned the sweep with a 25-12 win in the third frame behind .400 hitting. Carlson had a kill, an ace and a block in the set for the Bulldogs.
