Bulldogs Top Southern Maine, 19-9

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 27, 2023 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team came away with a 19-9 non-conference victory over Southern Maine at Grant Field on Monday afternoon.

Dean (5-2) resumes conference action on Friday under the lights at Emmanuel with a 7 p.m. start time. Southern Maine (2-6) travels to Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Junior Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) led Dean with 11 points on eight goals and three assists. Junior Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) added four goals and an assist. Senior Greg Centeio (Fairhaven, Mass.) added a hat trick. Junior Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 22-of-29 faceoffs and picked up 15 ground balls.

Southern Maine was led by sophomore Tucker Nussinow (Winthrop, Maine). He had six points on five goals and an assist. Senior Omar Contreras (Portland, Maine) scored twice, while senior Nick James (Portland, Maine) added a goal and a couple of assists.  

Dean senior goalie James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) picked up the victory with nine saves. Freshman goalie Tanner Nussinow (Portland, Maine) allowed 10 goals and made 10 saves in the first half, while freshman Addison Dietz (Waterbury Center, Vt.) played the second half with nine goals allowed and eight saves.  

The Bulldogs began the game with two goals by Alvarez-Segee and one by Speirs. Southern Maine answered with a couple of man-up goals by Nussinow and Contreras. Dean responded with three goals to close the quarter out with a 6-2 lead.

In the second frame, Dean outscored the Huskies 4-0 with three goals by Alvarez-Segee.

Speirs scored three times in the third for the Bulldogs. Dean outshot Southern Maine 20-3 in the quarter, but the Huskies scored on each shot. Dean led 18-5 after 45 minutes.

The Huskies had a 4-1 margin in scoring in the fourth with three goals by Nussinow to make the final 19-9 in favor of Dean.
