BOSTON, Mass. – March 31, 2023 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Emmanuel, 10-6, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup Friday night.

Dean (5-3, 1-3 GNAC) returns home on Tuesday to host the University of Saint Joseph at 3:30 p.m. Emmanuel (7-3, 5-0 GNAC) will host Regis on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Junior Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) led the Bulldogs with four points on two goals and two assists. Junior Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) added two goals and an assist, while sophomore Owen Brine (Lebanon, N.H.) also scored twice. Junior Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 12-of-20 faceoffs and picked up a game best 11 ground balls.

Ryan Castle (Boxford, Mass.) and Colin Dickinson (Barre, Vt.) paced the Saints with three goals apiece. First-year Ryan Etzo (Bedford, N.H.) contributed two goals and one assist. Derek DelVecchio (Saugus, Mass.) had a team high nine ground balls.

Dean senior goalie James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) made 15 saves in the loss. Randy Castle (Boxford, Mass.) had 16 stops to secure the win for Emmanuel.

Emmanuel took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter lead with goals from Ryan Castle and Dickinson.

The Saints went on top by three with an early goal in the second before Dean broke through with a goal by Speirs at 11:20. Emmanuel answered by scoring three more times to close the half with a 6-1 advantage.

The home team notched the lone goal of the third quarter to take a 7-1 lead into the final quarter.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first two minutes of the fourth, behind strikes from Brine and Alvarez-Segee, but Emmanuel answered with a pair to retake a six-goal lead. Speirs and Brine closed the gap for Dean with less than five minutes to play. Etzo stopped the rally for Emmanuel, while Alvarez-Segee ended the scoring with 1:55 remaining, but that would be as close as Dean would get, 10-6.
